How to create a free “brand eye”
Published in stuff October 25th, 2010 |
Recently, I needed to find a way to track all the social media feedback for a particular brand. I searched for web services, software, etc. I could not find a proper service or a proper service/software at a good price. So, I created one.
I call it “brand eye” (you can call it as you like). Here is what I’ve done:
- Register a Yahoo account (if you already haven’t one) and visit pipes.yahoo.com
- Start creating a pipe and add a “Fetch Feed”.
- In the “Fetch Feed” add the urls:
- the feed from a search result from search.twitter.com (as many as you want);
- the feed from a search result from blogsearch.google.com (as many as you want);
- a feed from a Google search (you can create one through open.dapper.net) (as many as you want).
- Under the “Fetch Feed” add the operator “Sort” from the left menu in Yahoo Pipes.
- Sort the feeds by date.
- Link the “Fetch Feed” to the “Sort” and the “Sort” to the “Pipe Output”.
- Create the pipe and get its RSS.
This is a very simple way to track what your customers say about your brand.
I could not find a way to integrate a facebook search, so I’ll be glad if someone tells me how to create a RSS from a facebook search. It is just a matter of time.
Anyway, this is a very simple (yet not perfect) way for technically not savvy guys to track brands in the net.
You can try it.
